Dementia is an illness which affects thousands of people a year in different and challenging ways – no 2 people have exactly the same journey. I’m aware of this having worked alongside people living with dementia for over 20 years. I also have personal experience of how it impacts day to day life as I watched my Mum’s Alzheimer’s disease progress from tiny glitches to presenting a serious safeguarding issue over the course of 8 years.
Whilst there are many and varied support services available, I have noticed that there is little opportunity for service users to talk one-to-one about how dementia is impacting them in a personal and unique way. Combining the practical, legal knowledge I have acquired with my mediation and therapy training, I developed specialised counselling for this client group, who are very close to my heart. I offer
- Couples therapy where one person has recently been diagnosed with dementia
- Individual therapy for carers
- Mediation for families trying to make best interests decisions on behalf of a loved one
My qualifications
- Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy (Westminster Pastoral Foundation)
- Diploma in Conflict Resolution (NAOS, Ealing)
- Certificate in Mediation (Align Mediation)
- Certificate in Counselling Skills Level 2 (BACP, Kingston College)
- Level 3 Counselling Diploma (Association of Learning)
- Advanced Couples Therapy Diploma (completed with NAOS, Ealing)
- Relational Life Therapy Levels 1, 2 and 3
As with all therapists, my training is ongoing – I am currently studying for the couples therapy coaching certificate with the Relational Life Institute: www.relationallife.com
